Tuxedo - How to measure

Measuring and Sizing Instructions

Coat Measurement

Chest: Place tape measure around your back, under your arms and across the widest part of your chest.  Make sure that you are not wearing a bulky sweater or shirt.  Insert one finger between the chest and tape for a comfortable fit.  This is your jacket size.

Outer-Arm (Optional): Keep your arms at your side and place the tape measure around your back and across the widest part of your chest, over your arms.  Subtract 6 inches to determine your jacket size.  We recommend this method, instead of the Chest measurement, for gentlemen with an athletic build (such as those with huge biceps).

Height: Stand against a wall (shoeless).  Place a flat ruler across the top of your head to the wall.  Your height will determine the coat length.

5’4” to 5’7”

Short

5’7 ½” to 5’11

Regular

5’11 ½” to 6’2 ½”

Long

6’3” and Up

Extra Long

Pant Measurement

Waist: Place the tape measure around your natural waist (above hip bone) just below the navel.  Waist measurement should be no different than your regular pant size.  The waist size plus 6 inches usually equals the chest size.  Tuxedo pants are usually adjustable, so if you are a size 33, 34 or 35 waist, you would go with the Tuxedo pants adjustable waist of 33-35.

Out Seam: Place the tape measure on the right hip at the waistband and extend the tape down the leg to the outside arch of the shoe.

In Seam (Optional): Place the tape measure at the beginning of the pant crotch and measure down the leg to the center arch of the shoe.

Shirt Measurement

Neck: Place the tape measure around the base of your neck.  This would be just below the Adam’s apple at the level collar would be if buttoned.  Measure slightly loose enough for the index finger to fit between the tape and neck for a comfortable fit.  Always size up.

X-Small = 13 - 13.5" Small = 14 - 14.5"
Medium = 15 - 15.5" Large = 16 - 16.5"
X-Large = 17 - 17.5"  2X-Large = 18 - 18.5"

Sleeve: With arm straight down at the side, place the tape measure at the base of your neck in the back.  Extend the tape over your shoulder and down the length of your arm to about an inch below the wrist bone.

Vest Measurement

Vest size is primarily determined by your coat size.  The bottom of the vest should slightly overlap your pant waistband.

Coat Size Vest Size
36 - 38 Small
40 - 42 Medium
44 - 46 Large
48 - 50 X-Large

Neckwear

Regardless of which style you have chosen, the tuxedo neckwear is adjustable and you should not have any issues in regards to sizing.

Shoes

Tuxedo shoe sizing is similar to the shoes that you normally wear daily.
